Benedictine abbot. The superior of Fontenelle, in France, Benignus was exiled by political factions, returning to Flay, where he was elected abbot. When Charles Martel gained control of France, Benignus returned to Fontenelle, remaining the abbot of Flay,and died shortly thereafter
