Barontius was a gentleman of Berry who, together with his son, became a monk at Lonrey in the diocese of Bourges. As a result of a vision, he asked permission to become a hermit, set out for Italy, and established himself in the district of Pistoia. There he lived a most austere life with another saintly monk, Desiderius
